What Dollars Buy

100% of every individual's donation to the Community Safety Net goes straight to services because of 10 businesses we call Corporate Champions who cover our administrative costs.  Here are a few needs that we met because of support to our Community Safety Net.

Facts from Twin County United Way Programs in 2006

In Good Health:

  • Emergency help for 84 low-income senior citizens to meet unexpected financial needs
  • Over 1,000 senior citizens driven to appointments by a volunteer
  • 11 wheelchair ramps built to help seniors live independently in their homes
  • 400 snacks per day in the Summer Feeding Program for local children between the ages of six and 18
  • 128 backpacks sent home through local schools filled with food items to feed children every weekend
  • 30,000 meals delivered on a yearly basis to local senior citizens

 Helping Youth Succeed:

  • 166 young girls were mentored and educated through scouting programs
  • Family Enrichment weekends for children with a disability
  • Informational and support packages for 40 families with children with a disability
  • 24 support group sessions for grieving children
  • 3,647 kids were engaged in positive after school activities

 Community Outreach:

  • Approximately 150 homeless food packs distributed per month.  (Meals to last for a day that are easy to cook)
  • Approximately 400 family food boxes distributed per month. (Families are eligible once every 3 months)
  • Providing a warm bed and place to stay for 6,401 individuals
  • Helpline support provided for 8,701 individuals to call on the 24-hour crisis line
  • Free legal assistance to 30 low income victims of domestic violence
  • 143 abused and neglected children were provided community volunteers to advocate for them  in court
