community needs assessment

Twin County United Way identifies the needs of our community on a regular basis in order to keep our mission and objectives relevant to the concerns of the Lewis Clark Valley. Every individual that participates our assessment helps determine goals that will be set for our community over the next five to ten years. This document contains a summary of the results from 430 surveys conducted in Lewiston, Clarkston, Asotin, and Lapwai during the fall of 2009. Students, volunteers, Twin County United Way and SJRMC staff distributed the surveys through these neighborhoods. The majority of surveys were conducted in local neighborhoods during the week of October 13th, with all surveys being submitted and entered into the data entry system by mid November.

All of the data was collected into a database on "SurveyMonkey". Participants distributing the surveys and entering the data signed agreements claiming they followed all survey instructions and did not alter or influence any survey data. These agreement forms can be seen in the "Additional Information" section at the back of this report.

In addition to the summary of the results from the 430 random surveys, included are the results of a similar survey given to Twin County United Way partner agencies. Fourteen local nonprofit organizations completed the surveys in addition to the feedback from the community. That survey was administered completely on "SurveyMonkey" and all of those results were kept separate from the community survey. The Partner Agency survey results are shared in this report after the results of the community survey.

Data compiled from three separate focus groups are included on pages 27-30. All TCUW partner agencies, local nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and community members shared the greatest gaps and obstacles they see in our community. Community Indicators are included as well to report specific data on areas of need in our community.

All of these categories together help determine the greatest needs in Lewiston and Clarkston in order for TCUW to focus on the root causes of the problems and not only focus on short-term fixes, but instead, long-term results and lasting solutions.
