Twin County United Way is focused on engaging a diverse set of individuals, institutions, and resources, in order to create long-term sustainable change in the Lewis Clark Valley. We do this by mobilizing the caring power of our community to improve lives.
With this in mind, we want to invite you to celebrate the core of our community, that being the family, by focusing on the building blocks for a good quality of life, those being EDUCATION, INCOME, & HEALTH. Having a healthy balance between all three building blocks begins in the early years of life. Including happiness in the early years of life will ultimately contribute to our children learning better.
Consider the following facts: We believe that every child is born learning. From the moment a newborn enters the world, they are eager for interaction with those around them. This emotional connection helps give them the confidence that they need to learn. Here are five ways you can help them learn better.
Watch your child. When she cries, go to her. Try things like feeding, holding and hugging or singing. This teaches her that you care about her and that she can trust you.
Being a parent can be very tiring. Do not be afraid to ask for help. You can get support from friends, family or community groups.
Let your child hear your voice as much as possible. Share books every day. Point out words and letters. Words and sounds are the basis of language and learning.
Sing and play during bath time. Tell stories before bed. Talk with your child during meal times. Routines give your child a sense that the world is safe and that he can depend on you.
Spend time with your child. Hold and hug her. Listen to her. When you make a child feel safe and secure, you help her grow and develop. A child who feels loved has an easier time learning.
Twin County United Way celebrates the family by encouraging you to bring as much happiness into your child's life in their early years, for it is at this stage of life that the building blocks of life are formed. We invite you to LIVE UNITED with us & promote learning.
